Concert at the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg - 100 years of Poland regaining independence

In the Concert Hall of Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg echoed the sounds of “Resurrection and Triumph” – the symphonic poem composed deliberately to honor 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland. The author of this work is the Russian composer Mr. Sergei Slonimsky, who was decorated with the Order for Merit of the Republic of Poland and whose presence graced the event. All the invited guests had an unique opportunity to listen to the works of Polish composers, so rarely played in Russia. The Symphony Orchestra of the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory, under the baton of the Russian conductor Mr. Alexei Vasiliev, performed Witold Maliszewski’s overture and the piano concert of Witold Lutoslawski. The evening was graced by the performance of the Polish pianist, winner of many international awards – Mr. Pawel Zawadzki.

The concert celebrating the centenary of regaining independence by Poland took place on October 28th and closed the 18th "International Week of Conservatories" Festival. The event was organized by the General Consulate of the Republic of Poland in St. Petersburg and Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory. Official speeches were given by the Consul General of the Republic of Poland Mr. Andrzej Chodkiewicz and the rector of the Conservatory Mr. Alexei Vasiliev. The event was hosted by one of the world’s most outstanding music scenes – the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, and among other invited guests there were members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of the world of business, arts and culture.
